Select your treatment after the consultation:
At OnlineClinic, you can buy Zoely contraception as a course of 84 or 168 tablets, suitable for a 3-month and 6-month supply respectively. Our doctors will be able to advise the quantity after our free consultation. Unlike many combined contraceptives, Zoely is under the title of every day (ED) pill and taken over the full 28 days of your cycle without a seven-day break. You are protected fully throughout the course when it is taken correctly. Many find the continuous nature of Zoely ideal if they tend to forget to start a new pill pack.
Ordering medication in the UK requires a prescription to make sure you are completely safe taking any medicines. Heading to the doctor every time you need a new batch of contraception can be inconvenient, requiring you to take time off work to get to appointments and heading to the pharmacy. At OnlineClinic, you can order Zoely through a quick consultation, which is then reviewed by one of our doctors before issuing a prescription. If you need your combined pill quickly, we offer next day delivery free of charge.
Zoely's primary aim is to prevent pregnancy when they are taken correctly (detailed under 'How to take Zoely'). Available in tablet form, Zoely comes under the umbrella of 'combined contraceptive pills' as it includes the two female sex hormones, oestrogen and progesteron. The versions available in Zoely are estradiol (which is the form of oestrogen that is naturally found in the body) and nomegestrol (synthetic form of progesteron).
As Zoely contains natural oestrogen, not synthetic, women who had side effects with other contraceptives before find this pill to be very tolerable. Specifically, Zoely is also referred to as ED combined pill as it contains the same amount of oestrogen and progesteron in all active pills. This means forgetting a pill is slightly more forgiving, although it is always advised to remember each Zoely tablet to keep effectiveness to the maximum and avoid unnecessary worry.
How to take |
One tablet is taken daily with or without water in the correct order marked on the blister packet. Each pack has 28 tablets. You start the next pack immediately after the last. |
How it works |
Zoely contains both oestrogen (estradiol) and progesteron (nomegestrol) and works by mimicking ovulation and thicken the womb walls to prevent pregnancy. |
Effectiveness |
When taken correctly, Zoely prevents pregnancy. No oral contraceptives should be used as protection against STIs. |
Dosages |
There is only one dosage for Zoely available in a 3-month or 6-month supply; 2.5mg estradiol and 1.5mg nomegestrol. |
Side effects |
Side effects of Zoely are unlikely but can include nausea, vomiting, headaches, abdominal pain, bleeding or spotting and breast tenderness. This usually appears within the first three months of taking new medication. |
The oestrogen and progesteron in Zoely tablets work be imitating and altering your natural menstrual cycle. This tricks your body into thinking ovulation has already occurred to prevent the egg from being released each month. Zoely also works by thickening the walls of your vagina, making it even more difficult for sperm to reach and fertilise an egg.
As Zoely is slightly different to most combined contraceptives, taken for 28 days with no break, it has 'active' and inactive' pills. This means they have to be taken in order. Inactive pills (in the case of Zoely, there are 4 that are easily distinguished in yellow) don't have any active ingredients in them, but merely help you remember to take contraception everyday. The 24 remaining pills are white.
Each pack of Zoely contraception comes with 28 tablets; 24 active white pills containing both estradiol and nomegestrol and 4 yellow inactive pills used as reminders. Each blister pack is clearly marked making it even easier to remember which to take and in which order.
When taken on the first day of your period, or immediately after taking another form of oral combined contraception, you will be immediately protected. For the mini pill, it is advised to use extra protection for the following seven days.
Do note that sickness such as diarrhoea and vomiting can alter the effectiveness of Zoely, as it hasn't had time to ingest in your system. Check our precautions section below for more information.
Zoely is available in one dosage of 2.5mg estradiol and 1.5mg nomegestrol. This is the only dose available and has been proven.
The vast majority of women don't experience any side effects whilst taking Zoely, especially as the oestrogen is already naturally produced in the female body. If you do experience any effects from taking Zoely, it is likely that they will pass within 3 months of the taking the medication. If they are more severe or persistent, it is advised to stop taking Zoely and contact your doctor with any symptoms. Additional barrier protection should be used. Some side effects include; nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, weight fluctuation, thrush, breakthrough bleeding (spotting), and breast tenderness. There are other side effects too that there included in the patient leaflet at the right of the page.
When taking combined contraceptives such as Zoely, it is important to take into account the following precautions. If you:
It's always worth remembering that oral contraceptives such as Zoely don't protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Condoms – aka barrier contraception – are the best option to significantly reduce the risk of contracting an infection.
Note: Decisions about treatment are for both the prescriber and the person to jointly consider during the consultation. However, the final decision will always be the prescriber’s.
