What is Scopoderm?

Scopoderm is a patch which contains the active substance hyoscine hydrobrominde. This is one of the most commonly used medications for motion sickness. The medication is absorbed through the skin to stop people from feeling nauseous or sick while in motion and because it acts for 72 hours there is no need to remember to take the next dose or wait until you feel sick, which in many cases can be too late as vomiting will would mean oral medication is brought back up.

Short facts about Scopoderm
How to take

Scopoderm is applied directly to the skin and placed behind the ear. The patch has to be applied to an area that is free from hair for better adhesion. Each patch lasts for up to 72 hours.

How it works

The Scopoderm active ingredient is quickly absorbed into the skin and keeps releasing medication for 72 hours to keep you free of symptoms.

Effectiveness

As one of the most commonly used substances for treating travel sickness Scopoderm is more effective due to it being distributed through the skin. This means that vomiting before application will not affect the medications absorbtion.

Dosages

The patches contain 1.5mg of hyocine hydrobromide which is released over 72 hours.

Side effects

Mouth dryness is one of the most common side effects which wear off once the body gets used to the medication. Skin irritation can rarely occur but also subsides quickly.

Being a patch it is simple to use and there is no need to measure doses or have water to hand when using. Applied before travel commences it can keep travel sickness and nausea at bay before it begins allowing users to have a more comfortable journey.

How does Scopoderm work?

The active ingredient in Scopoderm works by stopping the brain from getting confused. When you travel the eyes see motion so send a message to the brain to balance the inner ear. The conflict of not moving while the eyes see motion can cause people to feel nauseous when travelling in a car, plane, train and other methods of transportation.

Scopoderm alleviates travel sickness by blocking the receptors that send the message to the vomit part of the brain so that travel does not make you feel nauseous thus preventing the symptoms.

How to take Scopoderm?

  • Scopoderm works best when it is taken 5 or 6 hours before leaving. It can be used during a journey if you begin to feel nauseous too. To use the patch you should:
  • First take the patch away from its sealed patch and remove the backing
  • Hold the edge without touching the sticky side and remove the patch from its backing
  • Place the patch on an area of skin behind the ear where there is no hair and hold onto it for ten seconds to ensure adhesion
  • Wash hands after placing the patch on the skin and again after you remove it
  • After removal you should wash the area of skin where it has been
  • If the patch does come off when travelling it should be thrown away. The area of skin should then be cleaned and a new patch should be applied to the area of skin behind the other ear.

If you embark on a journey that lasts for over 3 days you can remove and apply a new patch to the other ear to continue receiving the anti-emetic medication without a break.

Scopoderm Dosages

The Scopoderm patch is available online at OnlineClinic as one dose of 1.5 mg in packs of 2,4,6,8 or 10.
