Wegovy

Wegovy is a branded version of the weight loss drug semaglutide. People suffering from obesity can use this medication to lose weight more easily.

Components

The Wegovy injection pen is made up of different components that all work to make injecting yourself as easy as possible.

Preparing your injection pen

	Check the name and dose of your pen to make sure it contains your prescribed dose of Wegovy Remove the pen cap
	Look through the pen window and check that your Wegovy is clear and colourless If it looks cloudy or coloured, do not use the pen
	Take a needle when you are ready Push the needle straight onto the pen and turn until it is on tight
	Remove the first cap off the needle and keep it at hand Pull off the second cap covering the needle and dispose of it
	Turn the dose selector until you see the flow check symbol shown in the image Make sure the flow check symbol lines up with the dose pointer Only do this when preparing a pen for the first time
	Check the flow by holding the pen upright and pressing the dose button A drop of Wegovy should appear at the needle tip If a drop doesn’t appear, check the flow again - this should only be done twice

Using your injection pen

Once your pen has been successfully prepared, you are ready to inject yourself with Wegovy.

	Turn the dose selector until it shows your prescribed dose If the dose counter stops before you reach your prescribed dose, there may not be enough Wegovy in the pen
	Choose your injection site You can inject Wegovy into the upper arms, stomach, or upper legs Make sure to keep a 5cm distance from your belly button, and do not inject in the same spot twice (the same body part is okay)
	Insert the needle into the skin Do not cover the dose counter, as this can interrupt the injection
	Press and hold down the dose button until the dose counter shows “0” Keep pressing the dose button with the needle in your skin and count to 6
	After 6 seconds, remove the needle from your skin If you see blood, press lightly on the area to stop the bleeding
If all steps have been followed correctly, you will have properly injected yourself with your weekly dose of Wegovy, but make sure you properly discard the needle and handle the pen by following the below instructions.
	Lead the needle tip into the needle cap you kept to the side earlier Carefully push the needle cap completely onto the needle
	Unscrew the needle from the pen and dispose of it carefully Dispose of it in a sharps container if you have one
	Put the cap back on your Wegovy pen Never store your pen without the cap or with a needle still attached

Wegovy should be started on the lowest dose, 0.25 mg. Your dosage will be increased every 4 weeks until you reach a maximum maintenance dose of 2.4 mg.

How long should I take it for?

Wegovy will continue to be prescribed until a healthy BMI has been reached. At this point, you will need to maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine to avoid putting the weight back on.

How do I store Wegovy?

Follow these instructions to properly store your Wegovy injection pen:

• Before opening: store in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C)
• During use: store below 30°C or in the refrigerator for a maximum of 6 weeks
• Keep out of the sight and reach of children
• Do not use past the expiry date
• Do not freeze Wegovy, and do not use it if it has been frozen

Do not throw away medicines via wastewater or household waste. Take your unused Wegovy to your local pharmacist for proper disposal, and dispose of your needles into a sharps container.

• Hair loss
• Gallstones

Most side effects are mild and should disappear once your body has gotten used to the medication. However, if side effects are persistent or worrying, consult your doctor for advice.
